 5. Reduce skin contact with animals by wearing gloves and long-sleeved lab coats. The integrity of the PPE should be inspected to ensure it is intact prior to donning. Change gloves often as these develop microscopic holes/tears during prolonged use.

6. Laboratory clothes should be left in the lab and should not be worn while eating or after work. Food and drink or utensils for human consumption are not permitted in laboratory areas.

7. Wash hands with soap and water frequently. Wash hands before leaving the work area and before eating or drinking.

8. Keep work area clean. Regular housekeeping routines must be established to ensure that the work place is as clean and free from animal allergens as possible.

9. Avoid bringing animals into the laboratory unless it is not feasible for the procedures to be performed in the animal facility.
