NUTRITION

Cats must have a sufficient quantity of nutritious and palatable food. Pelleted food from commercial sources is recommended for routine use. A high quality canned food may be offered to animals during post surgical and other periods when their appetite might be reduced. Some research projects may need to use diets that are deficient or in excess for specific nutrients. These are available from several commercial companies.

Feed should not be fed to animals after six months after the milling date since essential nutrients may have deteriorated. Food should be stored in a cool area on pallets to allow cleaning underneath.

Fresh water must be available at all times. Either water bowls or automatic drinking valves can be used - but both systems must be checked every day to make sure an adequate supply of water is available to the animals.
