BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
Animals from commercial sources should be given a 5 to 7 day period to become accustomed to the new environment before research is initiated. During this time they should be given a physical examination and tested to ensure that they meet specified requirements.
Cats from shelters should be quarantined for at least 21 days to allow time for immunizations, parasite therapy, nutritional conditioning and treatment of minor illness.
Random source animals should receive a thorough physical examination at the end of the quarantine period.
