HOUSING AND SOCIAL NEEDS
Cages must be constructed and maintained so the animals can remain dry and clean. Stainless steel, aluminum or fiberglass are used for construction of movable cages. Built-in units are usually constructed of fiberglass. Whichever material is used, the enclosures must be designed and built for optimum sanitation. They should have rounded corners, smooth surfaces and no sharp edges to make them safe for both animals and people.
Runs or pens are often used to house cats. These enclosures can be used for caging compatible groups if they are large enough. Pens usually provide more space for exercise than do single cages.
