ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Adequate ventilation in fish tanks is maintained by the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Several methods can be used to facilitate this exchange including using tanks with large surface areas, increasing surface turbulence and the use of aeration equipment. A dissolved oxygen reading of 6.0 parts per million is acceptable and can be monitored using a dissolved oxygen probe. Oxygen is usually not monitored unless there are a large number of animals in a small system.
