HOUSING AND SOCIAL NEEDS (cont)

You must have adequate ventilation to supply oxygen, remove thermal loads, and reduce the concentration of infectious agents, odors and ammonia. Ventilation is important in controlling animal disease. Since the airborne route can transmit important pathogens of goats, adequate ventilation reduces transmission of those agents.

The Guide states that 10 - 15 air changes per hour will provide adequate ventilation. It is noted in the Guide that a ventilation rate based on animal numbers is reported to be more effective and energy efficient. This method would be acceptable if it provides effective ventilation.
