BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
Respiratory diseases are not uncommon in goats. Most respiratory problems are associated with Pasteurella and Mycoplasma species. Poor ventilation, crowding and stress related to transportation may contribute to the development of these problems.
Parasitic infections are the major causes of gastrointestinal problems in goats. Nematodes and protozoal parasites can be found in goats of all ages. Fecal exams should be performed routinely and anthelmentics administered as indicated by the results of the fecal exam. A fecal exam should be performed routinely on any newly acquired animals or any goat with signs of diarrhea.
