HOUSING AND SOCIAL NEEDS (cont)
Guinea pigs do well in group housing. Researchers should be careful not to frighten or startle guinea pigs as they may stampede in a circle and jump from open or uncovered cages.
Whether to use solid bottom or wire bottom cages is a controversial question. Generally, guinea pigs born in solid bottom cages do not do as well when transferred to wire mesh floors cages. They may experience broken limbs or develop inflamed foot pads.
