BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
Animals must be observed on a daily basis for signs of disease or injury. Report suspected problems to the supervisor of animal care or the veterinarian.
Some common abnormalities and diseases of hamsters include;
- Diarrhea or "wet tail" is a relatively common and readily observed disease that is often fatal
- Ectoparasites - usually mites with clinical signs of dermatitis and scratching
- Endoparasites - usually evidenced by anemia, diarrhea or weight loss
