Proposal Review and the IACUC (con't)

Designated member review requires that each IACUC member be provided with at least a list of research proposals or previously approved proposals with significant proposal changes. All members have the opportunity to request a full committee review of any proposal. If none of the members request a full review, The Chairperson can then designate a member(s) for the review.

An IACUC can take several different actions after review of a proposal. These include; approval, modifications required, or withhold approval. Sometimes IACUCs defer or a table the review.

Investigators must then be notified in writing of the decision to approve or withhold approval, or of modifications required. The investigator must be informed of reasons for withholding approval and an opportunity to respond.
