REPORTING DEFICIENCIES IN ANIMAL CARE (cont)

If an employee reports a problem to you as a supervisor, P.I., veterinarian or administrator -acknowledge their report and promise to report back with more details as soon as possible. After you complete your assessment of the problem, be sure to let the employee know the outcome.

If you have reported a humane deficiency to the P.I., the veterinarian, the Chairperson of the IACUC, and/or the senior administrator but are not satisfied with the response - call the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in the capital city of the state where the institution is located. The USDA veterinarian responsible for animal welfare will contact the institution and investigate the alleged deficiency.
