ETHICS OF ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION
Attitudes toward use of animals for research, for furs, as pets and in agriculture vary widely. At one extreme are people who would give all animals rights equal to those given to humans. Humans, in their view, should not dominate other animals in any respect. The extreme animal rights advocate opposes even pet ownership since this is a form of domination by the pet owner.
The animal rights philosophy arises from interpretations of the writings of Aristotle, St. Francis of Assisi, Albert Schweitzer and others. The Scientists Center for Animal Welfare "Laboratory Animal Welfare Bibliography" lists a number of publications on this subject under the heading of Ethics.
