SANITATION
Mouse cages should be changed as often as necessary to keep the animals dry and comfortable and to maintain odor levels within acceptable limits. Cage cleaning frequency is dependent on several factors such as cage design, animal population and the amount and type of bedding used but generally cages with 2 to 4 mice should have bedding changes 1 or 2 times a week.
Generally soiled cages, racks and accessories should be sanitized weekly in mechanical cage washers with 180 degree F (82 degree C) water to help minimize disease transmission. It is recommended that the 180 degree F (82 degree C) water occur in the rinse cycle.
Automatic watering systems should be flushed periodically as an aid in maintaining a sanitary water flow.
