NUTRITION
Commercial diets are available that provide all known essential nutrients for rodents. For routine maintenance and for most experiments, pelletized feeds are offered to the animals ad libitum. Since the incisors of rodents grow continuously, gnawing the hard pellets helps keep these teeth at the proper length.
However, some experiments call for feeding a powdered diet which does not allow the animals to gnaw. Animals eating this diet could develop overgrown incisors.
You need to watch these animals frequently and closely to check their incisors for proper growth. Overgrown teeth can be easily clipped to the correct length. (note: you must wear eye protection when performing this technique)
