EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES (cont)

Submandibular bleeding can be performed in an awake animal using a bleeding lancet.  The mouse can be restrained by gripping the skin around the neck and then inserting the lancet into the submandibular area of the cheek pouch to pierce the vein.  Collect blood into a vial and then apply pressure to stop the flow of blood.
