ENVIRONMENT (cont)

Bacterial breakdown of urine may cause an excessive buildup of ammonia within the cage. This can enhance susceptibility to certain respiratory pathogens. You can avoid ammonia buildup by more frequent cage changing or by housing rodents in ventilated cage racks that help aerate the cages.  In addition there should be a minimum of 10 air changes per hour within the room to help dissipate the odors.
