Mice should be maintained in environments that allow for normal activity. According to the "Guide", a publication of the Public Health Service (PHS) which outlines criteria for optimum animal care, temperatures should range from 68 to 79 degrees F (20 to 26 degrees C).

The "Guide" also notes that room temperature settings for rodents are typically set below the animals' lower critical temperature (LCT) to avoid heat stress. Animals should be provided with adequate resources for thermoregulation ( nesting material, shelter) to avoid cold stress.
