ZOONOSES
A zoonosis is a disease that is transmittable between animals and man. Animals are often carriers of the disease and they do not always show clinical signs of the disease. A zoonosis can develop in humans from direct contact with infected animals or their specimens such as blood or body fluids in soiled bedding. There are many causative agents including viruses, bacteria and parasites.
Although several important zoonotic diseases are discussed in the following text - please note that many other zoonotic hazards do exist. You must consult with your OHS Officer or attending veterinarian for other hazards that may exist within your institution.
