ZOONOSIS
Nonhuman Primates
Primates may harbor many types of microorganisms capable of infecting humans including tuberculosis, retrovirus, Cercopithecine herpesvirus 1 (B Virus) and various intestinal pathogens.
Tuberculosis is normally acquired by simians from human contact.
Retrovirus - The human health risk posed by nonhuman primates infected with Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) is uncertain at this time; however, several instances of human seroconversion to SIV have been observed in animal workers.
