Chair restraint methods are acceptable only if approved by the IACUC and monitored by the responsible veterinarian. To maximize acceptance the animals must be gradually conditioned to chair restraint. For instance, the animal should first be restrained under sedation for short periods of time. Gradually the animal is restrained in the chair without sedation and for longer periods.
Chair restraint of a primate
Primates should be chair restrained only for the duration of the experiment and never for convenience.
