EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES (cont)
Intravenous drugs are administered most commonly through the saphenous vein on the lower posterior part of the leg. It is helpful to constrict the vein higher up - thereby facilitating needle placement. A 22 - 25 gauge needle or angiocatheter can be used for this procedure. An alternate site is the cephalic vein located on the upper arm.
