Some of the more common signs of infectious diseases in nonhuman primates include loss of appetite, diarrhea, dyspnea, lethargy, ocular and nasal discharges, roughened coat, coughing and vomiting.
Non-infectious clinical problems include tail injuries, abscessed canine teeth and acute gastric dilatation.
Some common primate diseases and their signs include;
- Tuberculosis - characterized by weight loss, pneumonia and fistulous tracts
- Pneumonia - accompanied by conjunctivitis, nasal discharge, dyspnea, coughing and lethargy
- Measles - symptoms including serous ocular and nasal discharges, conjunctivitis, facial edema and skin rashes
- Shigellosis in which the primate exhibits hemorrhagic diarrhea, anorexia, rapid dehydration, depression and prostration.
