Illumination should range between 325 - 550 lux at cage level. Light and dark cycle length may be controlled by an automatic timer. Many facilities use a 14 hour light period when breeding primates.
Noise and vibrations should be minimal - especially for New World monkeys such as marmosets which are easily excitable.
Environmental alarm systems are available that can alert personnel to ventilation, heating and air conditioning failures.
