IDENTIFICATION AND RECORDS
Rabbits may be individually identified by tattooing the ear using any of several devices. Squeeze type tattoo instruments must be used with the animal under anesthesia. (Identification tags may be placed in the ear but are commonly lost.)

A black marker may be used to write the animal number on the ear for short term identification. You will probably need to replace the marking in a week or so.
Records for rabbits on experiment may be as simple as a cage card with hand written information or as complex as detailed information maintained in a computer database.
