EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES (cont)
Samples of several milliliters may be obtained from the medial artery of the ear with a 21 gauge needle and syringe. The animal must be properly restrained for this procedure. The needle should be inserted into the artery toward the base of the ear. Evacuated blood collection tubes may also be used for sampling. Chemical restraint may help when you are obtaining large blood samples.
