Subcutaneous injections are made into the tissue beneath the loose folds of skin on the scruff of the rabbit’s neck.
Subcutaneous injection in the rabbit
For intradermal injections in rabbits the skin of the back and flank is shaved or cleaned by close clipping and the use of a depilatory preparation. The skin is prepped with an antiseptic solution and stretched tightly. A 25 – 27 gauge needle attached to a tuberculin syringe is inserted into the dermis and the material is injected so as to form a small blister or bleb.
