NUTRITION (cont)
Rodent feed should be used within six months of the milling date since essential nutrients such as vitamin A and thiamine deteriorate with time.
If possible, feed should be analyzed for the presence of estrogenic activity, pesticides, heavy metals, antibiotics and any other contaminants that may affect data in the experiment.
Someone should examine the feed bags when they are delivered. Torn, soiled or otherwise damaged bags may be contaminated and should not be accepted.
Feed should be stored on pallets in a cool, dry, vermin-free room with a temperature preferably below 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) and a relative humidty below 50%. Use a system of rotating the feed to assure that the oldest feed is used first.
