BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
- monitor the health status regularly of animals after they are released from quarantine - this includes daily observation, disease diagnosis, treatment if indicated and euthanasia of moribund animals - perform necropsy as necessary.
- isolate animals with health problems and have the veterinarian determine the cause of the problems
The veterinarian has the ultimate responsibility to see that adequate analgesia, anesthesia and post-operative care is provided. In addition, the veterinarian may be consulted on surgical procedures and should provide information on acceptable methods of euthanasia - he or she must insure that euthanasia is performed appropriately.
