Some other relatively common abnormalities and diseases of laboratory rats include -
- Sailodacryoadenitis - caused by a virus with clinical signs of enlarged salivary glands and inflamed eyes
- Ectoparasites - usually mites with clinical signs of dermatitis and scratching
- Endoparasites - usually evidenced by anemia, diarrhea or weight loss
- Overgrown incisors and malocclusion - the teeth can be trimmed and you should monitor these animals closely after the first occurrence
