EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES (cont)

Blood may be obtained from the femoral vein after pulling the hind limb caudally with the pig in dorsal recumbency.  The femoral groove can be located by following the pulse of the medial saphenous artery to the area where it disappears between the medial muscles. The needle is inserted at a 45 degree angle toward the body.
