EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES (cont)
Intravenous injections are generally given in the ear veins. Apply pressure to the vein at the base of the ear to occlude and distend the vessel. Hold the ear with one hand and insert the needle into the vein with the other hand. It is sometimes helpful to enter the subcutaneous tissue adjacent to the vein and then enter the vein from the side. Release the pressure from the vein prior to injection.
