Euthanasia
Methods for euthanasia must be approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the institutional veterinarian. The recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Association Panel on Euthanasia should be used as a guide.
An intravenous overdose of pentobarbital or a euthanasia solution is the preferred method of euthanasia in swine. Potassium chloride may also be used intravenously or terminal exsanguination may be performed if the animal is under general anesthesia.
