ENVIRONMENT (cont)
A dimmer switch will help provide the proper lighting for animals and workers. Illumination at 800 - 1000 lux for observation and cleaning and 325 lux for the remainder of the day period is desirable. A time-controlled lighting system should be used to provide a regular diurnal light cycle.
Noise levels should be kept low in animal rooms. High noise levels and sudden unexpected noises are stressful to the animals and can cause elevated serum levels of adrenal steroids.
