BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
The institutional veterinarian will provide a preventative medicine program which is tailored to the types of fish being used and the types of research being performed.
Animals should be purchased from reliable breeders who provide healthy animals with appropriate vaccination and parasite control programs.
Incoming animals should be quarantined from existing animals to determine their health status. Animals will also acclimate and recover from shipping stress during this period. Fish can be treated with anti-protozoal agents or antibacterial agents if needed.
