ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
Heating or cooling of water can be controlled directly with the use of thermostatic equipment inside the tank or indirectly by raising or lowering the ambient room temperature. Water may also need to be refrigerated for cold water species such as trout.
Ambient water temperature in tanks should be monitored at least daily. Temperature can be monitored periodically by use of a floating thermometer or temperature strips attached to the side of the tank. Electronic probes are also available that can be connected to a computer that constantly monitors the temperature.
