PERSONAL PROTECTIVE PRACTICES AND EQUIPMENT

Personal protective practices include consideration of ergonomic performance of tasks thru reduction of repetitive motions and possibly the re-engineering of procedures and equipment.

Lifting of materials associated with maintenance of research animals and the performance of research procedures should be done with proper lifting techniques. Back supports may help in preventing some back injuries.

Personal protective equipment often consists of clothing, gloves, face protection devices, respirators and ear protectors. This equipment varies according to the level of protection needed.

Your OHS Officer must be consulted to assure that you are using personal protective practices and equipment that is adequate for the type and extent of hazards to which you may be exposed.
