NUTRITION (cont)

Clean potable water should be available to primates at all times. In some cases water may need to be analyzed for contaminants.  Some facilities use special water filtration systems to remove environmental contaminants such as heavy metals and organic compounds.

The simplest watering system for primates is the cage front mounted bottle with sipper tube.  This method is however the most labor intensive. An automatic distribution system with water valves located in each cage is a convenient and efficient method of providing water to large numbers of primates.  The system must be checked daily for proper operation and should be flushed periodically to maintain a sanitary water flow.
