HANDLING AND RESTRAINT TECHNIQUES
Different levels of restraint may be needed depending on the species used, the size of the animal or the nature of the research.
Some cages are designed with a squeeze apparatus for restraining monkeys until grasping with special gloves or gauntlets. Chemical restraint may be achieved by using the squeeze apparatus to secure animals for the administration of parenteral drugs such as ketamine hydrochloride.

The pole, chain and collar system is an excellent and humane method of controlling the smaller primate but time must be taken to acclimate the primate to the device
