BASIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS (cont)
High levels of sanitation must be maintained during quarantine since many of the infectious diseases occur in this period. It is recommended that quarantine rooms be maintained under negative air pressure to help minimize disease transmission.
Tuberculosis testing using mammalian tuberculin is initiated during quarantine to detect carriers of the organism. To perform this test a Tuberculin syringe is used to intradermally inject a volume of 0.1 ml which contains 15 mg of tuberculin. The needle should be carefully placed in the center of the upper eyelid approximately 2 mm above the margin.

Commonly, the minimum testing period is once every two weeks for three sets of negatives. Longer testing regimens may be indicated depending on the source and health status of the animal.
Monkeys should be screened for parasites and treatments should be administered during quarantine.
