HOUSING AND SOCIAL NEEDS (cont)
Most rabbit caging is designed so urine and feces fall through a mesh or slotted floor onto absorbent material. These floor grates should have openings that are sized to prevent feet from slipping through and causing injury. The bars in the floor grid should be flat for the animal's comfort.
The bottom half of cage walls should be solid to help contain urine spray. This will prevent animals and feeders on lower tiers from becoming contaminated. The upper portion of the cage walls should be open mesh or slotted bar. This will increase air circulation and make it easy to observe animals.
