NUTRITION (cont)
Fresh, clean water must always be available and can be provided in water bowls or by an automatic watering system. Automatic watering is preferred to bowls because of the pig's habit of overturning bowls. The automatic watering system should be periodically flushed and the water nipples checked daily to ensure that they are working properly. Water deprivation can lead to a neurologic syndrome known as salt poisoning.
Food containers should be fixed to the side of the cage. The food containers should be cleaned daily.
