SANITATION
One goal of the animal care program is to provide comfortable, sanitary cages that meet the needs of the research program. Feces need to be scooped and the pen hosed once or twice a day.
If wood shavings bedding is used, the feces can be scooped daily and the bedding replaced once or twice a week. However, wood shavings have a tendency to clog floor drains if they are present in the room. The pen should be sanitized between groups of animals or every two weeks.
